In the year 2018 I wouldn't think that people still believe in supernatural things but apparently they do and there are various reasons that cause it.
First of all, where science fails paranormal reasons step in. People tend to try and explain everything and if it's not possible with reasonable arguments they turn to supernatural interpretations. The belief in higher entities that rule our lives gives people sense of security and a feeling of being loved. People in need turn to God because He always listens to their problems and regardless of mistakes the made - He forgives them.
To sum up, there are countless causes that make people believe in supernatural things even in XXI century.
If you give TWO explanations/answers to the question (need to explain things + security) why write about various reasons in the topic sentence and then "countless reasons" in the conclusion? Two is far from 'countless'.
